“Yawmiyan” means “everyday” in Arabic.
For years, So’ Fatoo has been known for its special-occasion attire — clothing that is simple and refined… yet often too elegant, and yes, too costly, for everyday life.
Still, the dream of wearing So’ Fatoo resonates with many. Young women have saved for months — even a full year — to purchase a graduation outfit. I remember one girl who faithfully set money aside each month until she could finally step into her So’ Fatoo dress for her big day.
In 2023, we opened a new chapter: a line designed to be more casual, more accessible, and easier to wear, while remaining fully aligned with Islamic values. For the first time in So’ Fatoo’s history, I was not the designer.
Instead, my sister Oumou and cousin Khadija — true “Yawmiyaners” themselves — took the lead. They selected the fabrics, sketched the silhouettes, built the prototypes, and presented me with the simplest pieces we had ever created, offered in two palettes: soft pastels and natural nude tones.
It was a bold departure from the So’ Fatoo signature I had known. I chose to embrace this difference by marketing it differently too. We dressed the So’ Fatoo team in the pieces, captured them in a minimalist photoshoot and video inside our boutique, and let the simplicity speak for itself.
The response was overwhelming. The So’ Fatoo family fell in love with it, and to this day, pieces from that first Yawmiyan collection are still being ordered.
And now, a new chapter begins. This year’s drop is scheduled for October — promising nothing but simplicity, lightness, and the quiet elegance of the everyday.
